And at least when I was getting FTKed I got to see some cool stuff, not “flip, set, draw, flip, set, draw”. Everyone was doing the same things in there, same as modern Yu-Gi-Oh! Instead of some bastion where non-archetypes thrived it’s like there is only one viable deck, chaos MOF tsukuomi turbo or something. I’d gotten comfortable with archtypes, so I made a pyro burn strategy because they had two different monsters that could summon themselves by banishing a fire in the grave.Īrmed with this, I went into goat aaaand. I looked through the goat cards and wasn’t blown away. I found it so linear, so I decided to try goats. This was in pendulum FTK format, and it was fun, but I kept finding that everyone was playing one of the same couple of things. So I discovered d*elingbook (Konami don’t arrest me), and I actually started to get into combo strategies. I was interested but forgot about it pretty quick. He was a nice guy, and he asked us if we ever played goat format, which he described as being the opposite of the burning abyss experience I’d had at that tournament. And a couple days into master rule 4 (not that me and my friends would gasp consider touching that meta sheep trash at the time), I was playing with my friend at a game store, when some guy in a fedora noticed us and commented on the game. So I was a bit disillusioned with the game after that, and proceeded to only play casually with my friends for a couple of years, past when pendulums were introduced, and eventually links. I went to one local tournament, got destroyed by burning abyss (I think one man was playing blue eyes burning abyss with heros), and summon vorse raider with ring of destruction set was not the unbreakable board I though it was. Okay, so when I first, first got into Yugioh (I legitimately cant remember the year, but burning abyss was at it’s peak I believe), I started with a blue eyes structure deck, subbed out with some cards out of packs I bought with my friend.
